SUMMERFEST is happening again on July 23-24, 2010 at the Stokes Bay Community Centre.
Over the past 12 years, the small hamlet of Stokes Bay on Lake Huron has become bigger and more alive with fresh faces and good times. Every July, usually the last Saturday of the month before the August long weekend, the Community Centre sponsors a fun filled day of activities for young and old. Agenda to follow soon.
Last year, the day started the night before at Stokes Bay General Store's Kruize Night. The soapbox derby entries bring their carts out for the coveted "Peoples' Choice" award. The carts are on display along side the regular participants of Kruize night. That night is a good time to come out and see all the entries along with the old cars, trucks and motorcycles. There is a BBQ with hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages sponsored by the Central Peninsula SnoDrifters Snowmobile Club. After the Peoples' Choice Award is named, everyone goes out behind the General Store for a good old fashion bonfire and sing along, which includes the band for Saturday nights' festivities and usually some local talent too.
Early Saturday morning there is always lots of activity around the Community Centre Hall. The children's bike parade at 11:00 am travels down to the General Store, for the soapbox derby. We have had lots of interest in the past years and each season just gets better. When all is said and done and all the awards have been passed out, everyone proceeds back to the Community Centre where we have our enormous Penny Table Sale with over 100 items. Our famous Stokes Bay cooks will have food available from early morning until six at night.
Last year the "redneck" flavour of games for the kids took place and lots of excitement went on. Local musicians come out in the afternoon to pick'n grin for everyone's enjoyment starting around 1:00 pm. So, if you know anyone who would like to join in, tell them to come on out and have some fun.
Later in the evening between 8 & midnight, we have a dance and buffet at the cost of $10.00 per person. The live entertainment is also part of this event. As well as the adult dance, there is a supervised youth dance and some karaoke inside the building.
So mark your calendars now for Saturday, July 24th and come out for the best day/night ever and remember "This is truly a FAMILY AFFAIR"
