Kent Wilkens was born in Nottingham England where his father was stationed with the RCAF.  In 1960 he moved to Ontario.  Since early childhood, Kent was interested in drawing and painting, dabbling in charcoal, pastels and oils and trying his hand at everything from psychedelic and abstract to portraits.  Self taught, Kent has developed a unique style.  He works mainly in acrylic on canvas.  The chief objective of landscape art is to capture the presence of the scene and to create a mood or feeling that leaves the viewer with the impression of peace and tranquility.
His works were offered for sale for the first time in 1988, and by 1989 demand increased sufficiently to allow him to concentrate full time on fine art.  In the spring of 1990, he released his first 4 limited edition prints and to date has published over 65 reproductions of his originals.
January 1991 found Kent in the West Bank in Palestine where he began work on a mural of the Sea of Galilee.  Kent returned to the "Holy Land" a year later to continue his mural.  While there, he became engaged to a lovely missionary from Australia.  They were married in June of that year and opened their new gallery.  Rachael is the manager and does all of the framing.
The spring of 1998 saw a major expansion of the gallery in Tobermory, where Kent and Rachael reside with their 6 children.
Kent looks at each of his paintings as a challenge "to attempt to present what God has already painted, using his palette of light, on the canvas of his creation.
