Explore the Bruce - Bruce Trail Hike
Seven Days - Six Nights
Day One:
Take in the spectacular scenery of the area as you make your way up the Bruce Peninsula to Cedarholme B&B, a historical home located in Hope Bay, just steps from the beach and where you can access the Bruce Trail, right from the front door. If you prefer cottage accommodation, they also have cottages available. After check-in, enjoy the evening relaxing or go for stroll on the beach.
DayTwo:
After breakfast, you’re ready to begin your hike toward Barrow Bay. You will need a packed lunch and be sure to take water with you. This is fairly rugged terrain, strewn with rocks and crevices. In the Hopeness area, there is a side trail leading to the “Pot Holes”. These are relics of the Ice Age, having been formed by the eddying action of the water running over the brim of the Escarpment. Your accommodations for tonight will be at Birch View B&B at Barrow Bay. If you feel like some additional exercise after your hike, there is a private Tennis Court on the property. Dinner this evening will be at Birch View.
Day Three:
After breakfast, you will begin your hike to Lion’s Head. Hiking today will be easier, as you will be hiking along an unused logging road, through some open fields and through mixed hardwood and conifer bush. Hiking from Barrow Bay to Lion’s Head will take about 2 hrs. and you can drop in to one of the local restaurants in Lion’s Head for lunch. This afternoon, there will be time to spend a couple of hours at the beach or browse through the shops and galleries before checking in at “The Bluffs B&B” where you will have dinner and will be spending the night.
Day Four:
After a fairly easy day yesterday, your hike will be a bit more strenuous today. You will need a hearty breakfast this morning and a packed lunch and water for your hike to Cape Chin. The hike today will take approximately 6 hrs. and follows a variety of terrain. Tonight you will be staying at “Cape Chin Country Inn B&B” where I’m sure you will be ready for your evening meal. After dinner you can relax in the lounge or spend the evening chatting with other guests at the Inn.
Day Five:
This morning you will continue on toward Dyers Bay. As you make your way along, be sure to take the short side trail to Devils Monument to get some fantastic photos. The Devil’s Monument is a 44’ “flowerpot” formation on the shore just off the Bruce Trail. As you reach the Dyers Bay road, you have the option of going on to “Larkwhistle Gardens” or you can go directly to “Moeke’s Ankerstee” (means mother’s anchor in Dutch) where you will be having dinner and spending the night.
Day Six:
This morning after breakfast, take a drive up to Tobermory to do some hiking on the northern portion of the Bruce Trail. You can access the Bruce Trail from the National Park Visitors Center for a hike down to Little Cove. Or, if you prefer, you can spend some time right at the Visitors Center viewing the various exhibits or watching the film in the theatre. If you would like to have a birds eye view of the area, you can climb the 65’ Viewing Tower that gives you a sweeping view of the Bruce Peninsula. You have a choice of several restaurants and dining rooms for Dinner this evening. Your accommodations for the night will be at Cedars and Birches B&B. After dinner, take a stroll along the harbour, browse through the shops or just sit on one of the benches and watch the sailboats and yachts as they come in to the harbour for the night.
