The Apollo Art Productions Art Gallery & Cafe was founded in 2002 by Michael Marcotte, Associate of the Ontario College of Art, PADI IDC Staff Scuba Instructor, Muralist, Faux Finisher, and Tradesmen.
The gallery displays original drawings, paintings, prints and sculptures by Michael, as well as artworks from other local artists. We also offer art lessons, live art, a cafe menu, free wireless internet, trade work (Faux Finishing, Murals, Masonry work, Design Consulting, etc.), tourist information and private viewings.
The Art of Michael Marcotte offers a unique look at the Fathom Five National Marine Park, both above and below, from his eight years as a Scuba Instructor in the area. Aside from the beautiful landscapes of the National Park on display, Michael offers realistic views into the aquatic world of Tobermory with paintings of our marine heritage, as they truly appear from the depths of Georgian Bay. The Gallery is an amphibious adventure into the sub-aquatic world, even for those who are less inclined to don scuba gear and view the underwater world for themselves.
All visitors to Tobermory are first greeted by the Apollo, located at 7361 Highway 6, south of the Royal Bank. We are the first Gallery to see as you come north on Highway 6 and enter the wonderful Hamlet of Tobermory, and a great last stop as you leave for home.
While in the town of Tobermory, visitors are able to see artwork and murals by Michael, at places such as the Chamber of Commerce, The Bruce Anchor Motel, Shipwreck Lee's, Divers Den, Morco Polo and E'Terra Inn. Other works and prints are on display at local businesses throughout town, While you are at the Gallery you may, on occasion, view live art, be it sculpting, painting, or sketching. By seeing the many stages that a piece of art goes through before it deserves a signature, patrons are more able to appreciate the works of an artist.
Guests are encouraged to relax on either of our two stone patios, where patrons enjoy items from the Cafe and free wireless internet, or just sit and watch art manifest itself beneath the sunny skies of Apollo.
The concept of the Gallery is based on classical times, when care for detail and beauty were of the most importance. The Gallery and studio have become a frame where both the art and the patron can be a part of. Subtle samples of Faux Finishing present themselves within each room, creating a unique experience that the Apollo is well known for.
We are open all year, by appointment, and from May to October the doors are open daily. We await your visit!
